Aug 22, 2008, Proud to be a dad

What's New ...

The Olympics never fail to provide moving examples of fathering dedication, and this year is no exception. We have watched gymnast Nastia Liukin succeed with coaching and inspiration from her father Valeri. And Robert "Butch" May, father of beach volleyball player Misty May-Treanor, is a constant presence at her matches, giving tips and encouragement from the stands. So then, during Michael Phelps' amazing run of swimming gold medals--and numerous camera shots and some interviews featuring his mother and sisters--many people are asking, "Where's Michael Phelps' dad?"

Fred Phelps and Michael's mother, Debbie, divorced when Michael was nine. From all appearances, Fred has kept in periodic contact with Michael through the years, but they have not had a consistently close relationship. When asked for an interview last week, Fred declined. "This is just about Michael," he said. "This is his glory, his time to shine." But Fred also confessed that he's watching his son very closely from his home in Maryland: "I'm just on pins and needles every time he hits the water."

Watch one great Olympic father-child story from 1992.

Jul 28, 2008, HEY GUYS EAT MORE WATERMELON!

Watermelon Facts

The New Reason to Love Watermelon

A 1-inch slice of the seasonal fruit contains as much lycopene as four tomatoes. Sure, watermelon is 92 percent water, but that other 8 percent is loaded with lycopene, a phytochemical that may protect your heart, prostate, and skin. If you slice your melon into 1-inch slabs, each piece contains as much lycopene as four medium-size tomatoes. The nutrient can reduce the risk of prostate cancer by up to 34 percent, while boosting your skin's natural SPF. In a recent USDA report, watermelons stored at room temperature were found to be healthier. Compared to freshly picked or refrigerated fruit, watermelon stored at room temperature gained up to 40 percent more lycopene and 50-139 percent extra beta-carotene. Best to keep it out of the cold until the day before you’re about to eat it.

Jun 10, 2008, Tomatoes Scare

CHICAGO (AP) - Federal officials hunted for the source of a 17-state salmonella outbreak linked to three types of raw tomatoes, while the list of supermarkets and restaurants yanking those varieties from shelves and menus grew. McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Burger King, Kroger, Outback Steakhouse, Winn-Dixie and Taco Bell were among the companies that voluntarily withdrew red plum, red Roma or round red tomatoes unless they were grown in certain states and countries. In addition, officials at the Los Angeles Unified School District - the nation's second largest - said Monday they have "indefinitely suspended" serving uncooked tomatoes. The FDA is investigating the source of the outbreak, agency spokeswoman Kimberly Rawlings said. "We are working hard and fast on this one and hope to have something as quickly as possible," Rawlings said Monday.

Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached and homegrown tomatoes are likely not the source of the outbreak, federal officials said. Also not associated with the outbreak are raw red Roma, red plum and round red tomatoes from Arkansas, California, Georgia, Hawaii, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands and Puerto Rico. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that since mid-April, 167 people infected with salmonella with the same "genetic fingerprint" have been identified. At least 23 people have been hospitalized. A 67-year-old cancer patient in Texas who health officials said was sickened by salmonella at a Mexican restaurant is believed to be the first death associated with the outbreak. The death of Raul Rivera last week has been officially attributed to his cancer, but Houston health department spokeswoman Kathy Barton told the Houston Chronicle in Tuesday's editions that the salmonella strain was a contributing factor.

Rivera's wife said he was hospitalized after eating pico de gallo, a tomato-based condiment, in late May while celebrating good news about his cancer treatment. Salmonella is a bacteria that lives in the intestinal tracts of humans and other animals. The bacteria are usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces. Most infected people suffer fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps starting 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness tends to last four to seven days. The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers in New Mexico and Texas as early as June 3 about the outbreak. The agency expanded its warning during the weekend and chains began voluntarily removing many red plum, red Roma or round red tomatoes from their shelves in response. The salmonella causing the outbreak is a very unusual type called salmonella saintpaul, said FDA Commissioner Andrew C. von Eschenbach, who added it was not more virulent than other types of salmonella.

Jun 10, 2008, An angry man sent me this I think he is right.

don't get why people take medicine that has side effects that are 10 times worse than what they are taking the medicine for. I don't understand the reasoning that says the schools can't punish children for misbehaving without being sued by the parents; and parents that can't punish their children at home because most punishment is considered “child abuse”. I can't understand the people that insist on owning a 150 pound dog bred to fight and kill, when they live in the city and in a neighborhood filled with children.

I don't get the reasons why we spend billions on a undeclared war , when some of our older folks at home are forced to choose between health care and food each month. I don't get why the quality of our goods keep going down, while the price and taxes on these goods keep going up. I will never get the reason why our Veterans are being denied complete and proper care by the very community that they sacrifice and suffer to protect just because it's their duty.

I don't get what happened to the old values like courtesy, kindness, manners, and respect.

I don't understand why our heroes today include so many that are accused of and excused for breaking the rules.

I absolutely do not get why there are so many questions asked by so many, and so few answers forthcoming .

Ok, Rant finished for the moment

Jun 5, 2008, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alcohol

The paper appears in Rheumatic Diseases, a specialist journal published by the British Medical Association (BMA).

Doctors advising patients about the disease say they should urge smokers to kick tobacco, but not necessarily to stop consumption of alcohol in moderate quantities. The authors, led by Henrik Kaellberg of the Institute of Environmental Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, note previous research that suggests alcohol interferes with inflammatory processes that trigger heart disease. People who had a moderate alcohol consumption were 40 and 45 percent less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis compared with people who did not drink or drank only occasionally, it found. Among those who had a high consumption, the risk was reduced by 50 and 55 percent respectively. Most surprising was that the biggest benefits were seen among smokers with a genetic profile known to make them vulnerable to the disease. Rheumatoid arthritis affects between 0.5 and one percent of people, according to figures for the industrialised world. It happens when the immune system attacks the joints, causing inflammation and damage to the cartilage and bone. A mixture of environmental factors, especially smoking, and genetic heritage are the deemed causes of the disease. High consumption of alcohol, while apparently protective for rheumatoid arthritis, is itself linked with many other health problems.

Jun 3, 2008, Inner City Pollution Part Two

Resp Eleven other than helping with viral infections is also helpful for those suffereing from allergies, hay fever, lung congestion and for people who are around smokers or who smoke.

I have been living in downtown Toronto for 10 years now and I am also an ex-smoker. I walk alot in the city and am around car pollution every day. I work full time in an office environment and am around many people day in and day out, not just in the office but within the downtown core. People on the subway, streetcar, elevator, gym etc.. So I feel it is very important to keep myself healthy and my immune system high when living this lifestyle.

I feel that without the GNLD vitamins, antioxidants and herbal products I would have problems with lung congestion and breathing and with overall health and I would definately not be able to fight off all the germs I come into contact with on a daily basis. I will continue taking these superior products from GNLD as they have made a very big difference in my overall health and I am very grateful for that. Name supplied.

Jun 3, 2008, Dealing with Inner City Pollution

A Great Testimony on dealing with everyday polution and germs in the inner city. And fighting Sinus infections WITHOUT ANTIBIOTICS.

Part One.

Hi, I have been taking GNLD products for many years now. I have definately noticed that that products have helped to increase my immune system. I have been able to fight off bad colds and the flu for many years now. If I do get sick, it is a mild sore throat that lasts a few days and then is gone. As soon as I have signs of sickness I increase my vitamin c, garlic, vitamin a and antioxidants. This usually does the trick and chases the cold away.

I was also very prone to getting sinus infections. Signs of sinus infections are increased mucus discharge that is first clear and then turns bright green. In the past the only way I could get rid of it was with antibiotics, which I did not like to take.

When I read up on GNLD's Resp-Eleven supplement, it stated that it is helpful for people prone to sinus infections. So I added Resp-Eleven to my program and would start taking it early fall before the cold season hit and right through until late spring.

This past winter I felt a cold coming on and this time it came with signs of an impending sinus infection. The first signs was clear mucus discharge and I knew if I did not take care of myself it could get worse. So I immediately increased my GNLD vitamins. I took extra vitamin c; 6-7 tablets, 3-4 carotenoids, 2-3 flavanoids, 5 vitamin a, 3-4 garlic and in addition 3-4 resp-eleven.

After 3 days I had nipped it in the bud, no sinus infection surfaced and my cold was on it's way out. I knew that the addition of the resp-eleven was my lifesaver here. It helped to fight off the sinus infection. I was so happy.

So I wanted to share this with those of you who may suffer from this problem. Add Resp-Eleven to your winter cold and flu preventative program. You will see the difference.

May 29, 2008, Vitamin A Reasearch From the UCLA

But a new study demonstrates that if you're one of the millions who have AK skin damage, you may substantially lower your risk of developing skin cancer by increasing your intake of vitamin A.

In the journal Clinical Cancer Research, scientists at the Arizona Cancer Center, University of Arizona (UA), note that a previous study conducted at UA showed that vitamin A supplements significantly reduced the risk of squamous cell skin cancer in patients with moderately severe AK. The vitamin A dose used in that study was 25,000 IU. So the UA team designed another study to test higher doses for both safety and efficacy. The rest of the info is at testimonies A

May 29, 2008, LYMPHOMA-Non-Hodgkins

LYMPHOMA-Non-Hodgkins

This is a testimonial from my brother-in-law who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma last year at the age of 52. Keith has always been very athletic and lives a healthy, active lifestyle in the country. He is a teacher, his wife is a nurse and they have 3 daughters. They also own and operate their own business. Keith had been taking Formula IV+ and Nourishake for about 5 years; but since the chemotherapy treatments would knock out his immune system, he started taking PhytoDefense - 1 packet in the morning and 1 at night. However, for 15 days after each treatment, he did not take it, since he had to allow the drugs to kill the cancer cells. The PhytoDefense was used to boost his immune system, in order to be able to continue with his treatments. He only had to reschedule one out of the 8 treatments. Keith remained very active throughout the chemotherapy, at least until the 6th treatment when he felt the drugs were really weakening his body. He would cycle about 20 Km. most days, or golf, and continued to work.He was more in touch with his physical limitations, and paid attention to what his body needed, so would rest in the afternoons. He was mindful of the effects of stress, and took Kung Fu classes, even passing his yellow belt during the chemotherapy! The nurses were very surprised at his accomplishment and his general level of energyand fitness. He'd warn them to "Be careful with that needle. I'll have to use my Kung Fu!" Another product he took religiously was Nourishake - 1 or 2 a day. He found it was easy to eat, and he felt assured that at least he was giving his body good nourishment to stay strong and maintain his health. He also drank lots of water, and of course took Formula IV+. In general, he says that by taking the products, you have a definite advantage. He noticed visible differences between himself and other patients each time he went for a treatment. On the advice of Dr. Don Lawson, he took Betagard after his treatments to flush out the residual toxins that would be left in his body by the drugs. He found that the numbness in his fingers, toes and tongue, common to many chemo patients, disappeared after only 2-3 months. His oncologist had warned him that this periodic numbness could last for up to a year, or more. Keith's recovery after chemotherapy has been amazing, and he is happy to say has not been sick with so much as a cold,or missed a day of work since his treatments!

May 29, 2008, Chemo Therapy Testimony

Anneliese Canada

I have been taking chemotherapy treatments every three weeks since July. Before each treatment, the clinic runs a series of blood tests in order to determine whether or not it is safe to give the next treatment. One of the most important indicators is the level of neutrophils - a component of the white blood cell count - which needs to be at least 1.5. Before the second chemotherapy, this neutrophil count was 1.4, which meant that I had to wait another three days. After that time the count had risen to 1.5, making it safe to give me another treatment. By the way, I learned that a normal neutrophil count ranges between 6 and 7.5

I had day surgery in September, which went very well and healed completely in one week. Before the fourth treatment (a Tuesday), my neutrophil count was only 1.2. So, I was asked to wait another three days. On Wednesday, I was talking to Don Lawson about my situation. He suggested that to help increase the neutrophil count, I should take Nourishake or GR2 protein three times a day \ul with\ulnone Beta Gest instead of the once a day I had been taking,. So, I had a protein shake on Wednesday night, three on Thursday and one on Friday morning. When I went for the blood test on Friday morning, my neutrophil count had risen to 2.6!! This meant that the count had more than doubled in just three days while I had taken 6 protein shakes

With this amazing recovery of my blood count in such a short time I am convinced that having a GNLD protein shake three times a day is what I needed. In fact I have been continuing to take a shake in the morning, mid afternoon and about 9:00 pm every day. And, ever since I have been doing this, I have been feeling much better than before. I have more energy and the episodes of anxiety and painful joints (side effects of chemo), which I experienced before, have vanished.

I know that proteins are the No. 1 building blocks of cells that need to be regenerated. And, with this powerful experience, I recommend that everyone use our protein shakes at least once every day, and more often if the body needs to do any healing from illness or medical treatments.

May 6, 2008, Not Supplements but Interesting Research

More evidence is being put forward that breastfed babies eventually become more intelligent than those who are fed with formula milk. Canada's McGill University found breastfed babies ended up performing better in IQ tests by the age of six. But the researchers were unsure whether it was related to the breast milk itself or the bond from breastfeeding. The study of nearly 14,000 children is the latest in a series of reports to have found such a positive link. However, one problem has been that some of the research has struggled to identify whether the findings were related to the fact that mothers from more affluent backgrounds were more likely to breastfeed and it was factors related to the family circumstances that was really influencing intelligence. But the latest study attempted to take this into account by following the progress of children born in hospitals in Belarus, some of which ran breastfeeding promotion schemes to boost rates across all groups. They found that those who breastfed exclusively for the first three months - with many also continuing to 12 months - scored an average of 5.9 points higher on IQ tests in childhood. Teachers also rated these children significantly higher academically than control children in both reading and writing, the Archives of General Psychiatry reported. Lead researcher Professor Michael Kramer said: "Long-term, exclusive breastfeeding appears to improve children's cognitive development." But he added: "Even though the treatment difference appears causal, it remains unclear whether the observed cognitive benefits of breastfeeding are due to some constituents of breast milk or are related to the physical and social interactions inherent in breastfeeding." Changes Fatty acids found in breast milk are thought to boost intelligence, but the report said the physical and emotional aspect of breastfeeding may lead to permanent changes to brain development. The researchers also suggested breastfeeding may increase verbal interaction between mother and child, which in turn could aid their development. Nonetheless Professor Kramer said more efforts should be made to promote breastfeeding. In England, the government recommends mothers breastfeed for the first six months. But research shows while three quarters start off breastfeeding, just one in four are still doing it by six months. Rosie Dodds, of the National Childbirth Trust, said: "This research certainly increases the evidence about the impact of breastfeeding. "And I think what we now need is more effort put into supporting it."

Mar 27, 2008, A Testimony I had to share

12 years ago, my father-in- law, Gerry, had a triple heart bypass. Then, in May of 1999 he experienced chest pain, had trouble breathing and was admitted to the hospital again. An ultrasound of his heart showed it was not contracting and pumping properly. The specialist classified the malfunctioning as category 3 - 4. Category 4 means a need for a heart transplant.

I immediately started Gerry on a 30 - day healthy heart program which includes 6 a day of Lipo Tropic Adjunct, Garlic, Salmon Oil, Vitamin E and Lecithin. After three weeks another ultrasound showed Gerry's heart functioning in the 2 - 3 category range. Both, the technician and the radiologist were quite surprised by the improvement.

After 30 days I had Gerry reduce his supplement intake by half. In September, 1999 Gerry had another ultrasound and the results were outstanding!!! His heart is now functioning at category 1, which is completely normal. His doctor asked the technician to come in and verify the results as he could not believe them. His comment was "hearts just don't revive like that". Now, Gerry's doctor's recommendation is to continue his heart health supplementation program because it is making such a positive difference. We are all very grateful that Gerry has recovered so well and thank GNLD for providing such excellent products that really work.

Mar 25, 2008, Diagnosis Diabetes

Diagnosis Diabetes:

Are you at risk?Type 2 diabetes (also known as adult onset diabetes) is growing. Currently, more than 15 million people in the U.S. have diabetes. Of those, 5.4 million are undiagnosed! Moreover, there are 798,000 new cases diagnosed per year… a figure that only increases with time. This means you could be at risk for this distressing disease right this very minute! What’s causing this upward swing in diabetes? Most health experts agree that it is caused by diet — primarily, a growing dependency on insulininducing carbohydrates. As people shy away from fatty foods, they replace them with seemingly healthy foods, like pasta, rice, and low-fat snacks. What they don’t realize isthat these types of foods are rich in insulin-inducing carbohydrates that dramatically increase the body’sglycemic response, causing severe “spikes” in bloodsugar levels. These spikes require the body to respond and normalize blood sugar levels by secreting insulin. It is theorized that the insulin receptors in the body become “desensitized” to insulin after years of this “roller coaster” of glucose and insulin spikes, thus insulin cannot do its job and blood sugar levels remain dangerously high. This eventually leads to adult onset diabetes. However, science shows that you can prevent your risk by losing weight and changing the way you eat. See what researchers say:Improve glucose tolerance in diabetics with a low glycemic index diet! This news was reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, as researchers further investigated the effects of a low glycemic index (GI) vs. high glycemic index breakfast. Low GI breakfasts improved glucose tolerance at the second meal! More importantly, glucose tolerance can improve in a single day!Low GI diet enhances quality of life in diabetic children! The July issue of Diabetes Care reported the resultsof a low GI diet versus measured carbohydrate exchange diets in children with Type 1 diabetes. During a 12-month period, the children on the low GI diet experienced lower rates of hyperglycemia. Moreover, the quality oflife, for both children and parents, were better than those on the carbohydrate exchange diet.White bread and pasta contribute to high glycemic index! The March issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that the consumption of pasta, white bread, and potatoes affected the GI of Type 1 diabetics. However, it was the consumption of white bread and pasta that had the biggest adverse effect on the overall dietary GI of those studied. By replacing white bread and pasta with their whole-wheat counterparts, diabetics can enjoy a better quality of life.

Risky weight loss measuresin adolescent diabetics on the rise! In April, researchers from Ohio reported that the cultural drive to be thin can lead to eating disorders in many diabetic girls. Many diabetic adolescent females believe that good glycemic control will increase their weight. However, by participating in risky behavior, likebulimia and anorexia, glycemic control can be difficult. Researchers concluded that treatment should include thepromotion of healthy eating, within a healthy glycemic index.Education is only half the battle on diabetes. Turn to GNLD to gain the upper hand in your battle againstthe bulge and diabetes!Give Yourself the Glycemic Edge! There are literally hundreds of weight loss programs to choose from, but only one that works for a lifetime: GR2 Control. By implementing GNLD’s revolutionary weight loss program into your life, you’ll not only loseweight — you’ll learn how to keep it off for good! Glycemic Response When we eat carbohydrates, our bodies must produce insulin to counteract its effects and normalize blood sugar levels. This is called “glycemic response.” The effect is like the ups and downs of a roller coaster that the body must deal with daily. So, the more simple carbohydrates that are consumed, the more frequently extreme glycemic responses occur. When a person consumes excess carbohydrates day after day, the body figures it has plenty of glucose energy available and stops burning fat, storing it instead! GR2 Control: The Program GNLD’s amazing new GR2 Control takes thescience of healthy weight loss to a brand new level. The whole program focuses on and utilizes the latest understanding of glycemic response to lower insulin secretion demands, sustain the feeling of satisfaction between meals, maintain balanced and controlled energy levels over longer periods of time, keep “fat storage doors” closed, and keep “fat burning doors” open. Moreover, it provides an EXPLOSION of secondaryhealth benefits for a healthier future. But that’s not all… GR2 Control will help you change your eating style so you can make smart mealtime choices for the rest of your life! Not only will eating right become ahabit, making it easy to keep those pounds off for good, but it will help set you up for a healthy future! The only way to win is to lose… contact your GNLD Distributor today and find out howyou can be thinner and healthier tomorrow!

Mar 25, 2008, AT LAST DOCTORS ARE TO SUGGEST SUPPLEMENTS

JAMA AND HARVARDRESEARCHERS RECOMMENDALL ADULTS USE DIETARYSUPPLEMENTS

Two Harvard researchers in a review, submitted to the Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA,2002, 287:3116-3126), suggest that all adults should take at least a multi-vitamin/Mineral tablet, daily.

This is a landmark position since the American Medical Association has traditionally suggested that adults receive their nutrients from diet alone.

This new recommendation suggests that the traditionally conservative, and non-prosupplement, medical establishment is finally accepting the benefits of nutritional supplements.

JAMA is acknowledging the fact that many adults do not receive a sufficient intake of vitamins and minerals from diet alone, and that a nutritional supplement is insurance to safeguard against inadequacies.

The article suggests that many groups are at risk for inadequate intake or absorption of certain vitamins. The elderly, vegans and alcohol-dependent individuals in particular are primarily at risk for insufficient vitamin/mineral intake. The researchers point out that deficiencies in vitamins B6 and B12,are associated with heart disease, and vitamin E and lycopene may decreasethe risk of prostate cancer. All of these nutrients can be found in nutritional supplements.

This recommendation substantiates what the company we found after all our trials and errors A company that had been touting for 45 years—“your diet alone cannot support your nutritional needs and help you achieve optimum health.”

One that had been founded on the basis that modern, processed foods were “stripped” of certain nutrients, vital to overall health.

Was right man 45 years ahead of the game no wonder.

And it’s taken the mainstream medical community over forty years to catch up.

And their exclusive, product provides lipids and sterols that support your health at the cellular level. Their Tre-en-en works to insure that the cells in your body are fully able to receive and process these critical nutrients.

So the bottom line now being touted by JAMA and the company is the following

“No matter how good your diet, your vitality and health won’t be well supported if your cells don’t receive the nutrients they need.”

Hence this is a supplement that works. Why because it covers the basics by delivering balanced ratios of broad-spectrum nutrients, rather than the mega-doses of isolated nutrients found in many other supplements.

Oh did I mention these products are produced under strict laboratory conditionswith the same care for quality, purity, and potency for over 45 yearsOH!! And did I mention they have a pharmaceutical license? And their facilities are run under those conditions.Superior supplements enhance your body’s general health, energy level, and stress-coping capabilities by addressing dietary “gaps”

Which is why I can safely say literally thousands of the companies customers (Including us) From 52 countries around the world have reported increased energy and vitality while using this product.

Mar 6, 2008, Breakfast Keeps Teens and Oldies Lean.

Breakfast 'keeps teenagers lean' Body-conscious teenagers may believe cutting out breakfast will help them lose weight, but the opposite appears to be the case, US research suggests. In a five year study of more than 2,000 youngsters, those who skipped breakfast weighed on average 5lbs (2.3kg) more than those who ate first thing. This was despite the fact that the breakfast-eaters consumed more calories in the course of the day. But the study in Pediatrics found they were likely to be much more active. The University of Minnesota research adds weight to a growing body of evidence that those who eat breakfast - whether young or old - are leaner than those who do not. "It may seem counter-intuitive," said Mark Pereira, who led the research. "But while they ate more calories, they did more to burn those off, and that may be because those who ate breakfast did not feel so lethargic. "While it's best to go for a healthy option - a wholegrain cereal for instance - the evidence does seem to suggest that eating anything is better than eating nothing at all." Mixed messages Around 25% of the group studied regularly missed breakfast, and the problem was particularly pronounced among young women.

"It's not just a girl problem, but it is certainly more of an issue among this group," said Mr Pereira. "They skip breakfast because they worry about weight gain - and it's ironic that the ones who aren't worried and eat in the mornings are the ones who keep their weight down." Tam Fry, chairman of the Child Growth Foundation at the National Obesity Forum, said the findings of the study showed just how important it was to relay a clear and consistent message to young people. "The real problem is the profusion of messages about obesity. We need to make clear that eating regular meals is vital - and that a proper breakfast is very important. "If you eat well first thing, you'll feel brighter, you'll have more get up and go - and that will mean you'll expend more energy." Teenagers are not the only ones who may benefit from sitting down to a proper breakfast. (Editor) We often wonder about the term A TEAM of researchers. Who are they what qualifications did they have etc. This article above was finished of as follows.

In a study of nearly 7,000 middle-aged people in Norfolk, a team from Cambridge University found that those who ate the most in the morning put on the least amount of weight.

NOW CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY I HAVE HEARD OF AND I AM SURE SO HAVE YOU.

Mar 6, 2008, MSG and Obesity Part 3

No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in 1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about the side effects of MSG for decades. Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's. So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see? Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada . While he was sitting in the government office, the official told him, "Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff." But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows. The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive. But what can I do about it? I'm just one voice! What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us? This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you. The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us. The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine? If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com. Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear. We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders. All we at supplements-that-work.net have to say by way of comment is this "What if this is all true? SCARRY

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG! So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative, or a vitamin? Not according to my friend John Erb. In his book The Slow Poisoning of America, he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body. Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more. A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us? "Betcha can't eat [just] one," takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight! MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added. Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday. The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these: "The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity." Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002. "Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats." Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug. 'Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors." Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima. Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar. "Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity." Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.

what follows is aportion of an e-mail one of our readers sent in which Makes very intersting reading. I have also included this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_glutamate

so you can verify the info below and also see reference at the end to aspartame. - - - - - -

Hi you all. I try and avoid MSG..it is in so many things. This is the best article I have read on the subject. Thought everyone would find the following interesting. MSG The food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow poison. MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as "Natural Flavouring." MSG is even in your favourite coffee from Tim Horton's and other brand-name coffee shops! I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada , and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America. In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats." When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the Campbell 's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavoured potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the "healthy low-fat" ones. The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called "Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein," which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate. It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are "Accent, "Aginomoto," "Natural Meat Tenderizer," etc.) But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Mar 1, 2008, Young athletes can require more protein.

Vita-Squares contain vitamins, minerals, lipids, sterols, and other whole-food-based nutrients that are deficient in many children’s diets yet are essential for good health. Vita-Squares are delicious chewable tablets with great flavor derived from all-natural fruit essences. Children’s tremendous growth rates require adequate protein each and every day too. The young athlete can require more protein than the average child due to stress from physical activity. Unfortunately, they often shun many protein choices or want to eat unhealthy protein sources such as hot dogs or greasy cheeseburgers. What they need is a protein choice that contains all twenty-two amino acids involved in human nutrition, is low in fat and cholesterol, and tastes good. GNLD’s Nourishake® is a perfect choice for kids since it contains all twenty-two amino acids, is low in fat and cholesterol, and tastes delicious. Additionally, it is sweetened with fructose, which does not cause the insulin spike associated with table sugar or high fructose corn sweetener. Getting kids to eat fruits and vegetables has been a challenge throughout the ages. Today, with our society’s heavy dependence on fast food, that challenge is even greater. Child-athletes require the protective nutrients found in fruits and vegetables as much—maybe more—than the average child. As with all other children, those needs have to be met or the athlete’s ability to repair and recover from the stress of sports can be compromised. Vita-Gard™ provides the most complete antioxidant protect ion available to defend children’s cells from free radical damage. Vita-Gard features both water-soluble and lipid-soluble antioxidants for optimal cellular protection. Vita-Gard is the only children’s chewable tablet to deliver a broad spectrum of flavonoids from all natural whole foods such as cranberries, green tea, mixed berries, lemons, and oranges, and carotenoids from all-natural whole foods including carrots, apricots, peaches, strawberries, and tomatoes. For the adolescent athlete, emphasis on lifelong nutritional habits that support peak performance and are not detrimental to health should be the only accepted practice. GNLD supports the efforts of young athletes and the good health of all champions— past, present, and future! ¹According to research published in the May 2006 issue of the British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM; 40:351-354 – “Reversal of fatigued athlete’s of a defect in interferon-gamma secretion after administration of lactobacillus acidophilus,” by Dr. R. L. Clancy from the University of Newcastle in Australia,)

Mar 1, 2008, Nutrition for child athletes

Nutrition for child athletes As children begin their athletic careers and their need for nutritional support increases, they unfortunately tend to decrease their desire for nutritious foods. Young bodies require tremendous amounts of nutrients to thrive, and the child-athlete needs even more specific nutrients to achieve peak performance. Athletes, including children, require optimal nutrition to recover from the stress of physical activity. (Journal of School Nursing: Sports Nutrition for Young Athletes, December 2005, vol. 21(6):323-8.) Allowing the body to recover more completely and/or more rapidly allows the athlete to come to the next training session or competition ready to push to the next level. Without proper recovery, an athlete of any age cannot maximize the body’s ability to improve. Incomplete recovery can hinder training and improvement. Poor recovery combined with long term overtraining can reduce the body’s immune capacity, which leads to illness and injury—things every athlete wants to avoid. Parents should be cautious when it comes to giving their children supplements, though—there are too many news stories about athletes who unknowingly take a banned substance contained in a “supplement.” GNLD wants every parent to know that we highly value the health of their children. In fact, GNLD and the SAB guarantee that all GNLD nutritional supplements are free from any substance banned by all the major sports governing bodies, including the United States Anti Doping Association (USADA). Children need a basic multi-vitamin that provides lipids and sterols in addition to vitamins and minerals. GNLD’s Vita-Squares® provide optimal cellular nutrition that supports children’s physical and mental development and emotional well-being by specifically addressing their nutritional needs.

Mar 1, 2008, more supplemental omega-3 power

An “Evidence Report” published by the US Agency for Healthcare research and Quality (AHRQ) in 2005 found that fish, total omega-3 fatty acid consumption, and specifically DHA were associated with a reduction in risk of both Alzheimer’s and non-Alzheimer’s dementia. Another study has shown that omega-3 fatty acids may also slow the aging of the brain. Older adults who supplement their diets with EPA and DHA have demonstrated greater cognitive function when compared to those who don’t. In a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers reported that study participants who eat oily fish or take fish oil supplements score 13% higher in IQ tests and are less likely to show early signs of Alzheimer’s disease when compared to those who don’t. Results of yet another trial published in the December 2005 issue of the Archives of Neurology showed that those who ate omega-3 rich fish at least once a week had what amounted to a 10% slower rate of brain aging. GNLD has offered high quality omega-3 supplementation for more than 20 years in the form of Omega-3 Salmon Oil™ and Omega-3 Concentrate™. Our most recent addition to our omega-3 offerings, Salmon Oil Plus,™ represents the leading edge of omega-3 research, understanding, and technology. It’s based on decades of knowledge and more than seven years of development. It delivers every one of the eight forms of omega-3 fatty acids involved in human nutrition, providing more supplemental omega-3 power than ever before—from just the sources and in just the forms nature intended and the body needs!

Mar 1, 2008, Q and A with the scientists at GNLD

Did you know?? Rhubarb is a fruit! It is, at least according to the Indiana State Department of Health. Surprisingly, due to the carotenoids that give it some of its red color, rhubarb is a pretty good source of vitamin-A! Though tart, the stalks are quite tasty, especially when added to something like strawberries. Don’t eat the leaves though—they may be beautiful, but they are very poisonous! Q.Will the glucosamine in Full Motion® cause elevated cholesterol? A. There is no scientific evidence to support glucosamine negatively affecting cholesterol levels. In fact, GNLD’s Full Motion does not contain any ingredients that cause a negative effect on cholesterol levels. Q. What is molecular differentiation? A. Molecular differentiation is a technology used to select specific nutrient molecules from fish while eliminating or reducing the other molecules not essential to omega-3 nutrition. Q.Why are anchovies and sardines used in Salmon Oil Plus? A. Anchovies and sardines are both naturally higher in EPA and its ETA(3) and ETA precursors. Anchovies and sardines were chosen as the starting point to maximize those omega-3 fatty acid levels. Q. How can Salmon Oil Plus™ have more omega 3 fatty acids than the other omega-3 products and still be in a smaller capsule? A. By using a unique and exclusive process known as “Molecular differentiation,” we can concentrate on specific omega-3 fatty acids while eliminating unnecessary elements. Q. How much of the fatty acids are from Salmon Oil? A. Although the percentages of fatty acid sources are considered proprietary, we can tell you the majority does come from salmon and that salmon oil is the single largest ingredient in the product. Q. Why did GNLD use tuna in Salmon Oil Plus? A. Specific types of fish have specific fatty acid profiles. Tuna is naturally higher in DHA and its DPA precursor, therefore tuna oil was chosen as one of the natural omega-3 sources for the production of UHPO3, our ultra high potency omega-3 fatty acid technology

3. In the American Journal of Medicine (2005; 118: pp.778-781), researchers report that acid blockers like Prilosec block calcium uptake. Drawn from a randomized, double-blind study of 18 elderly women, the research shows that such anti-acids inhibit the stomachs natural hydrochloric acid production, dramatically reducing calcium absorption by as much as 41%. Because the average American diet contains inadequate levels of calcium, researchers fear our tendency to rely on anti-acids rather than pro-digestives may be causing low calcium uptake and increasing risk of osteoporosis and bone fracture. 4. In the December 2005 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (2005; 294: pp.2336-2341), researchers suggest that assuring adequate vitamin-D intake each day might offer better protection from osteoporosis than calcium. The study, based on data from 944 healthy subjects in Iceland, showed that those getting the highest vitamin-D levels showed better utilization of calcium, while those getting high calcium alone did not. Their conclusion was that getting a healthy abundance of both was the best course. GNLD first introduced calcium supplementation in 1964, well before some words— like osteoporosis—were even known to the public. Today GNLD offers a variety of easy, convenient, and effective choices for calcium supplementation, including Chelated Cal-Mag. Based on our unique and exclusive “double amino acid chelation” technique developed by founding Scientific Advisory Board member and world-renowned cancer researcher and toxicologist Dr. Arthur Furst, Chelated Cal-Mag provides calcium and magnesium in their most bioavailable forms and comes with and without vitamin-D. And Vitality Calcium Plus delivers our broad spectrum—synergistic bone mineral supplementation that includes Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, and Manganese. Additionally, each recommended serving of our protein supplements GR2 Control® and NouriShake® deliver 35% and 50% of the RDA for calcium.

Mar 1, 2008, Four new calcium studies you should know about.

Four new calcium studies you should know about. 1. In the April 28 2006 issue of the journal Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers report that a double-blind, placebo control study lasting five years and involving 1,460 female subjects at least 70 years of age showed a significant reduction in the risk of bone fracture and improved bone strength and density for those taking the 1200 mg per day calcium supplement versus those on the placebo. 2. In the December 2005 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (2005; 90: pp. 3153 – 3161), researchers report that teenage boys can increase the mineral content of their bones and increase their height by taking calcium supplements. The study of 143 healthy boys age 16 to 18 separated them into two groups. One group received a 1000 mg per day calcium supplement and the other a placebo. At the end of the twelve month study, the boys receiving the calcium supplement had greater bone density, with the most active boys showing the greatest increase, when compared to the placebo group. Additionally, those boys receiving the calcium supplement also grew by a statistically significant average of .28 inches more.

Mar 1, 2008, THE REST OF THE WORLD JOINS US ON PROBIOTICS

Antibiotics Yes they help when your sick but what Damage do they cause after?

It has been shown has we are seeing more and more on TV now that the human body as its own version PROBIOTICS. Theses are good and antibiotics kill them. For example, when athletes become fatigued, one of the biological markers that doctors and researchers see is a drop in the natural virus fighter known as interferon. Low interferon levels are also seen in people infected with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and suffering from the chronic fatigue that accompanies it.¹ Supplementation with lactobacillus acidophilus (20 billion units per day) for just 30 days reversed interferon decline and returned it to healthy levels. The power of probiotic (life-supporting) organisms.

Probiotic “Acidophilus” shows promise for athletes and Epstein Barr related fatigue.

Mar 1, 2008, Omega-3 supplementation is great for back and neck pain.

Omega-3 supplementation is great for back and neck pain. Many previous studies have reported that omega-3 fatty acids, both from fish and fish oil supplements, can reduce and even prevent inflammation. A study published in the April 2006 issue of the journal Surgical Neurology (vol. 65, pp. 326-331) strengthened this connection, further showing that, given a little time to take effect, omega-3 supplementation is as effective as NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) without any of the negative side-effects. 125 people suffering with non-surgical spine pain, and who were taking NSAIDs, volunteered to take a 2400 mg per day supplement of omega-3 fatty acids for a two week period and to follow that with 1200 mg per day thereafter. One month into the test, participants responded very positively. 59% reported no more NSAID use. 60% reported improvement in their overall level of pain. 80% said they were satisfied with the results and 88% said they would continue with omega-3 supplementation. …and it’s great for the brain, too! In a December 2004 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, research investigating the long term effect of omega-3 consumption reported finding a direct benefit. In an observational study following a group of 64-year-old patients, it was determined that, when tested and compared to similar tests they had taken in 1947, those with the highest omega-3 intake had the highest IQ and greatest cognitive retention.

Feb 28, 2008, Supplements and healing Book

We have been asked several times regarding the book we have for show on our pages, Nutritional Healing By DR BALCH no they are of no relation. But here is the independant review again not our opinion but an independant one. With which we agree hence we recommend the book and all independant information that educates us in this subject.

Prescription for Nutritional Healing by nutritionist Phyllis A. Balch and James F. Balch, M.D., has long been considered one of the most trusted, comprehensive sources on the mind-boggling array of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other dietary supplements now available. starts with the basics: consume fresh produce, grains, and lean meats; So what's new in the third edition? Along with now-accepted remedies, like zinc and echinacea for the common cold, the Balches also explore many of the newer supplements to hit the market: Still, the bulk of the book remains the more than 250 health conditions--from everyday problems such as insect bites and bad breath to serious diseases including bulimia, cancer, and AIDS--and the nutritional protocols the Balches recommend for treatment. Since any number of supplements can be taken for the same condition, the Balches make sifting through the glut of information a little easier by separating their nutrient recommendations into four categories: essential, very important, important, and helpful. And they take a lot of the guesswork out of buying supplements by listing the brands they know and trust. Once again, the authors have squeezed in an impressive amount of information, including valuable sidebars on topics such as the dangers of aspartame; how to choose a calcium supplement; common heart problems and procedures; cancer risk factors, diagnosis, and treatments; and sports nutrition. This is not relaxing reading, but it's enormously useful. While the material can be dense, the authors still manage to present it in a straightforward manner that's understandable even for readers without a medical degree. --Norine Dworkin --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Library Journal Written by a medical doctor and a certified nutritional consultant, this comprehensive guide to nutritional, herbal, and complementary therapies discusses natural healing programs for some 300 health conditions. Arranged in alphabetical order, it's a useful ready-reference tool, although it could have benefited from a good bibliography.
